We used a Theory of Change process involving around 200 participants to conceptualise the change we wanted to achieve 1) during the STRiDE project; and 2) for dementia care and treatment in each of the STRiDE countries. We did this by conducting a series of Theory of Change workshops.
The first workshop was held with the research team (43 participants) which included academics, non-governmental organisation representatives and other key international stakeholders and resulted in an initial Theory of Change map.
We subsequently held one workshop in each of the STRiDE countries with 22-49 participants including people living with dementia and their carers, service providers, representatives of government departments, professional organisations and researchers. We used the country specific Theories of Change to modify the overall STRiDE Theory of Change. We also ensured that the ToC was in line with the World Health Organisation dementia guidelines and action plan as well as a final review by the research team.
The Theory of Change provided a road map for the project to understand what we needed to change and why.

The STRiDE Brazil initial Theory of Change report
This report describes the development process of the STRiDE Brazil Theory of Change and its respective ToC Map. The workshop took place in June 2018 and aimed to co-develop the research agenda for the STRiDE project in Brazil, it involved several stakeholders from across the country, as well as people living with dementia and family carers.
